Claire
Maziarczyk is the designer, owner, and creator of
PASTEPAPER PATTERNS.
She first created paste papers in
1982, when she was introduced to the
process during
her tenure at the center for Book Arts in New York City.
Coming from a Fine Arts background in art education,
her studio work
focused mainly on printmaking and
painting. These two skills made the
transition to paper
decoration seamless. Claire’s training at the Center
for
Book Arts introduced her to typography, bookbinding,
box
making, and
decorative
papermaking techniques.
Her
decorative papers have been exhibited in museums
and galleries worldwide.
Her work is represented in the
collections of the Victoria and Albert and
the British Museum
in London, England, as well as the Schmoller Collection
of
Decorative Papers now housed at the Art and Design
Library of
Manchester Metropolitan University in Manchester,
England. Examples of her
papers can be found in virtually
every university library with a
collection of small press books
and books on book history, design, and
decorative
papermaking.
Claire
is available to
teach workshops on
decorative papermaking and related book
arts topics
she has been a guest lecturer for multiple institutions.
These
include her alma mater, Wilkes University in Wilkes
Barre and neighboring
Bloomsburg State University, PA;
SUNY Albany and Skidmore in NY; Penland
School of
Craft, Penland, NC; and St. Michael’s in Colchester, VT.
Additionally, Claire has presented her unique craft for
the Guild of Book
Workers Annual Standards of Excellence
Seminars held in 1993 in Boston,
Massachusetts, and
most recently in 2003 in Denver, Colorado.
Claire lives
and works in Niskayuna, NY with two gifted felines who refuse to answer
